About NAAC

The NATIONAL ASSESSMENT AND ACCREDITATION COUNCIL (NAAC) conducts assessment and accreditation of Higher Educational Institutions (HEI) such as colleges, universities or other recognised institutions to derive an understanding of the ‘Quality Status’ of the institution. NAAC evaluates the institutions for its conformance to the standards of quality in terms of its performance related to the educational processes and outcomes, curriculum coverage, teaching-learning processes, faculty, research, infrastructure, learning resources, organisation, governance, financial well being and student services.

Dr. Vineet Joshi, IAS

Dr. Vineet Joshi, IAS , an experienced civil servant and the current Secretary of the Department of Higher Education, has assumed additional charge as Chairperson of the University Grants Commission (UGC) on 11th April 2025.

A 1992-batch IAS officer from the Manipur cadre, Dr. Joshi has held several key roles in education administration over the years. Most recently, he served as Chief Secretary to the Government of Manipur from July 2023 to December 2024, before taking up his current post as Secretary, Department of Higher Education at the Ministry of Education on 16th January 2025.

Prof. Anil Dattatraya Sahasrabudhe

Prof. Anil Dattatraya Sahasrabudhe, did his BE in Mechanical Engineering in 1980 from Karnataka University securing First Rank and a Gold Medal. He did his Masters in 1982 and PhD in 1989 both from Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore. In between he had brief stints of working as Scientific Officer in IISc (1983) and Engineer Trainee in Tata Consulting Engineers (1983-84) before starting his teaching career in the newly started North Eastern Regional Institute of Science and Technology, Itanagar, Arunachal Pradesh (1987-95) and again in newly started Indian Institute of Technology, Guwahati from 1995 onwards.

Prof. Ganesan Kannabiran

Prof. Ganesan Kannabiran
Director, NAAC

Prof. Ganesan Kannabiran is an alumnus and a senior Professor of Information Systems at the National Institute of Technology, Tiruchirappalli with over 30 years of experience in teaching, research and administration. He has served as Dean of Research & Consultancy and Director in-charge of NIT Trichy.

He has successfully led the Indian Institute of Information Technology Sri City Andhra Pradesh (An Institute of National Importance), from 2018 to 2023 as its founding Director. He has made significant contributions including implementation of NEP 2020 by incorporating skill development, holistic education, inclusive education, credit transfer, etc in to the education system. He has also introduced many best practices in the areas of student placements, attracting & retaining highly qualified faculty members, promoting innovation & entrepreneurship

Campus

NAAC resides on a sprawling campus spread across five acres at Nagarbhavi, opposite to the National Law School of India, in the Bangalore University, Jnanabharathi campus. The spacious and functionally designed building that houses the NAAC offices has been built based on the winning entry of an open national architectural design competition. The campus has priorities set out for working towards having a carbon neutral, eco-friendly environment aimed at energy conservation and rain water harvesting. The building is designed with unique features that permit sun light to permeate into the building through skylights, and air vents and passages that permit free flow of air across the building which minimize consumption of electricity. Emphasis on lush green environment, ecological balance and great care on the conservation of ecological resources create an enchanting experience and a pleasant ambience in the campus. The campus also includes a Guest House with 20 fully furnished rooms with all amenities, a few staff quarters and the Director's residence.

NAAC Garden: In a step towards fostering eco-sensitive awareness, NAAC has over the years nurtured and nourished a well-maintained garden environs in the campus. Over 300 species of exotic and regional varieties of plants in the garden have been identified and documented by Mr. Ravikumar K, SPA with the help of Dr.TM Ramakrishna and Dr. Y.N Seetharam, veteran taxonomists from Bangalore University. This project was initiated by Prof. H.A. Ranganath (former Director, NAAC) in the year 2012-13 and has got continuous support and encouragement from all the successive Directors. NAAC garden has been consistently winning prizes and accolades from the Mysore Horticultural Society, Lalbag in its Horticultural Show conducted every year for its beautiful maintenance.

Flora of NAAC: The Flora of NAAC contains identification and documentation work of various flowers, fruits, herbs, ornamental plants, indoor and outdoor plants available at NAAC Campus. The plants are categorized in to four groups and each plant is identified with its botanical name, family name as well as common name in three languages (Kannada, English and Hindi) along with some interesting facts about the plant. This is a unique initiative made at NAAC which is attracting more plant lovers among the visitors and receiving recognition.
