NAAC facilitates seminars and workshops in addition to  the many Peer Team Visits which take place every day in several institutions of the country. NAAC also partners with various State Governments and professional bodies to create an advocacy for assessment and accreditation. Assessors Interaction Meetings (AIM), IQAC Meetings and interaction with governmental agencies are an important part of NAAC's activities.

Sponsored Seminars

The basic objective of the scheme is to enable organizations / institutions to organize workshops which will promote quality in institutions as well as programmes. Priority areas for support will be on quality sustenance and quality enhancement measures, promotion of assessment and accreditation, internal quality assessment systems, promotion and sharing of best practices and student participation in quality assurance or any quality related issues in higher education.

Modalities for sanction of seminar grants

  • Institutions need to submit their proposals six to eight months in advance of the scheduled dates for organising the seminar so as to be considered in the Seminar committee meetings of NAAC scheduled to be held in December and June every year.
  • Institutions have to specify the scheduled dates of the Seminar and should strictly adhere to it. NAAC will not accede to any change in the scheduled dates of the seminar.
  • The grant will be only on reimbursement basis. The release of grants will be only on completion of the event and submission of the bills in original within one month of organising the event. If there is any delay in submission of the claims, the claims will not be processed for reimbursement.
  • To ensure timely settlement of the annual accounts of NAAC within the financial year preferably no event scheduled for the months of February and March will be considered.

Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC)


In pursuance of its Action Plan for performance evaluation, assessment & accreditation & quality up-gradation of institutions of higher education, NAAC proposes that every accredited institution should establish an Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) as a post-accreditation quality sustenance measure. Since quality enhancement is a continuous process, the IQAC will become a part of the institution’s system & work towards realisation of the goals of quality enhancement & sustenance. The prime task of the IQAC is to develop a system for conscious, consistent & catalytic improvement in the overall performance of institutions. For this, during the post-accreditation period, it will channelize all efforts & measures of the institution towards promoting its holistic academic excellence.


IQAC shall evolve mechanisms and procedures for:
  • Ensuring timely, efficient and progressive performance of academic, administrative and financial tasks
  • The relevance and quality of academic and research programmes
  • Equitable access to and affordability of academic programmes for various sections of society
  • Optimization and integration of modern methods of teaching and learning
  • The credibility of evaluation procedures
  • Ensuring the adequacy, maintenance and functioning of the support structure and services
  • Research sharing and networking with other institutions in India and abroad


Some of the functions expected of the IQAC are:
  • Development and application of quality benchmarks/parameters for various academic and administrative activities of the institution
  • Facilitating the creation of a learner-centric environment conducive to quality education and faculty maturation to adopt the required knowledge and technology for participatory teaching and learning process
  • Arrangement for feedback response from students, parents and other stakeholders on quality-related institutional processes
  • Dissemination of information on various quality parameters of higher education
  • Organization of inter and intra institutional workshops, seminars on quality related themes and promotion of quality circles
  • Documentation of the various programmes/activities leading to quality improvement
  • Acting as a nodal agency of the Institution for coordinating quality-related activities, including adoption and dissemination of best practices
  • Development and maintenance of institutional database through MIS for the purpose of maintaining/enhancing the institutional quality
  • Development of Quality Culture in the institution
  • Preparation of the Annual Quality Assurance Report (AQAR) as per guidelines and parameters of NAAC, to be submitted to NAAC


IQAC will facilitate/contribute:
  • Ensure heightened level of clarity and focus in institutional functioning towards quality enhancement
  • Ensure internalization of the quality culture
  • Ensure enhancement and coordination among various activities of the institution and institutionalize all good practices
  • Provide a sound basis for decision-making to improve institutional functioning
  • Act as a dynamic system for quality changes in HEIs
  • Build an organised methodology of documentation and internal communication


IQAC may be constituted in every institution under the Chairmanship of the Head of the institution with heads of important academic and administrative units and a few teachers and a few distinguished educationists and representatives of local management and stakeholders

The composition of the IQAC may be as follows:

  1. Chairperson: Head of the Institution
  2. A few senior administrative officers
  3. Three to eight teachers
  4. One member from the Management
  5. One/two nominees from local society, Students and Alumni
  6. One/two nominees from Employers /Industrialists/stakeholders
  7. One of the senior teachers as the coordinator/Director of the IQAC


Submission of Annual Quality Assurance Report (AQAR)

  • NAAC has revised the Guidelines for the Creation of the Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) and Submission of Annual Quality Assurance Report (AQAR) in Accredited Institutions from the year 2018-2019. The revised guidelines come into effect from 1st July 2018.
  • As per the revised Guidelines for Creation of the Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) institutions need to submit the Annual Quality Assurance Report (AQAR) online through in NAAC website. The software has been developed by NAAC and available to submit AQAR.
  • The Higher Education institutions which are submitting the Annual Quality Assurance Report (AQAR) need to submit in revised format with effect from 1st July 2018 onwards.
  • Institutions may kindly note that AQAR needs to be submitted in the new format only from the Academic year 2014-15 onwards.
  • Institutions may kindly note that AQAR needs to be submitted in the new format only for the Academic year 2018-19. Hence institutions need to note the changes and create their data in the new format.
  • New Procedure:
    The new format of AQAR is available at NAAC website in word file which may be downloaded and provide your institutions AQAR accordingly. This would facilitate the institutions to understand the plan their activity and collect the information. The following are the three formats of AQAR:
    • Universities
    • Autonomous Colleges
    • Affiliated /Constituent Colleges
Following are the recent changes in the AQAR submission:
  1. AQAR of the preceding academic year need to be submitted to the NAAC.
  2. Once the AQAR is submitted online by the Institution, the e-acknowledgement copy will be sent to the institution by the system itself. Institutions can view the AQAR report in the portal, and the .pdf Version of the AQAR may be downloaded from the NAAC web portal.
  1. The login id for the online submission for AQAR will be the e-mail id used for the IIQA. The IT unit of NAAC is preparing the user manual for the online submission of AQAR.
  2. The Institutions is advised to make a tab of NAAC in the Institutional website for keeping the records/files of NAAC, Peer Team Report, AQAR, Certificate of NAAC and Accreditation Outcome Documents. All data related to NAAC can be put under this NAAC tab.
    • If the institution has not submitted AQAR from 2014-15, 2015-16, 2016-17, 2017-18 need to submit in new format only. AQAR format in word file or earlier format will not be accepted.





  • As the online AQAR submission is new in the Accreditation process, the institution will be provided an opportunity to edit the AQAR with a maximum of 90 days from the day of the submission.
    This would facilitate the institution to enter proper data in the AQAR and also correct the data, if has been wrongly entered.
    Institutions are advised to look in to the NAAC website for recent announcement of online AQAR application in NAAC website.
    • The institutions which are accredited by NAAC need to submit AQAR after one year from the date of Accreditation. “The institutions are advised to submit AQAR after one year from date of Accreditation.”
      (For example: if the institutions Accredited by NAAC on 10th December 2018. The AQAR for 2017-18 is opened to submit in the portal on 09th December 2019).
    • Immediate preceding year data to be collected for submission of AQAR (Academic year means 1st July to 30th June).
    • NAAC has made mandatory submission of AQAR from 16th September, 2016. HEI’s are advised to submit the AQAR online regularly.
    • HEI’s should complete online AQAR submission within 90 days.
      (For example: If the AQAR online submission starts on 08-08-2019, then the Institutions should submit on or before 07-11-2019).
    • The HEIs will be provided an opportunity to review and resubmit the AQAR correction if any. AQAR, submitted by the HEIs will be reopened by the concern coordinator of NAAC on the request of HEI for review. HEIs should update AQAR and ensure completeness as per the comments/ remarks by NAAC coordinator and re-submit within 15 day).
    • If the Institutions validity period is seven years, the HEI need to submit the all the seven years AQAR.
